How to Sort Items in Wand & Order
Quick answer
A repeatable sort-identify-place-verify loop for all three zones.
If you are holding an item and do not know where it goes, use this order: zone → object family → exact name → visual variant → destination example → placement feedback. This prevents color or shape from sending a correct item to the wrong display. If you already know the item family and just need a lookup path, open All Item Placements and use browser find for tarot cards, wands, ingredients, chest keys, or missing-item fallback.
Quick shelf decision flow
- Read the held item's full name before moving across the room.
- Match the broad object type first: tarot decks in the Archives, wands in the Wand Workshop, and potions or ingredients in the Alchemy Lab.
- Check All Item Placements for the matching zone and item family before dragging the item to a distant shelf.
- Look for a shelf, display, cabinet, or row that already shows the same item family or exact title.
- Finish one correct row or display and use it as the reference for the rest of the family.
- Use visible labels, circles, colors, trim, and shelf markings as clues, then confirm with placement feedback.
- If a placement fails, recheck the variant inside the same family before crossing the room.
- Use Alchemical Vision for a known set, Magnetic Vacuum for nearby matches, and Auto-Place when carrying to the display is the slow step.
Zone shortcuts
- Archives and Tarot: split Major Arcana from Cups, Wands, Swords, and Pentacles, then check the current color and trim variant.
- Wand Workshop: compare case, material, school, cabinet, and the examples already displayed.
- Alchemy Lab: split tins, jars, bottles, potions, and ingredients before choosing a shelf.
- All Item Placements: use the lookup hub when you know the held item type and need the fastest route to the right room, family, or fallback guide.
Item Placement Examples
These examples show the decision pattern without claiming a full shelf database.
Tarot example
If a card or deck will not place in the Archives, confirm whether it is Major Arcana or one of the four suits before using color. Then compare the exact name, trim, and nearby completed row against the current shelf examples.
Wand Workshop example
If a wand looks correct but placement fails, check the cabinet or case label first, then compare material, school, and the examples already displayed in that case. Appearance alone can send a wand to the wrong section.
Alchemy Lab example
If a potion or ingredient will not settle, sort by container family first: tin, jar, bottle, potion, or loose ingredient. After that, match the item name and shelf examples before changing floors.
When the item still will not place
- Compare the item with a completed neighboring row, not an empty shelf.
- Recheck color and trim rather than color alone.
- Look for another display for the same broad family on a different floor or in a second room.
- Check whether the destination expects a sequence, such as Major Arcana or a ranked suit.
- If an item is invisible or fails to render, use the Invisible Items Fix.
When the last item is missing
Search stairs, landings, railings, alcoves, shelf ends, furniture edges, passages, and upper galleries in one continuous loop. Then confirm whether the remaining counter belongs to cleaning. The Missing Items Guide has a five-minute route for this exact situation.
FAQ
Why does an older tarot guide disagree with my game?
Hotfix 1.1 changed Zone 1 names, colors, groups, and Major Arcana presentation. Verify old color-only rules against the live shelf examples.
Can powers recharge while I pause to check a guide?
No. Hotfix 1.2 stopped powers from recharging while paused.
